Position Summary:
We are seeking a Director to lead and expand our Philadelphia office. The person will be considered a senior level
stakeholder within the company and is expected to be an expert in their trade (either HVAC or Mechanical). The successful candidate is an experienced industry influencer who will serve as a trusted advisor with their clients and a role model with their employees. This candidate will be responsible for upholding our firm’s brand, fostering client relationships, overseeing firm initiatives and operations, and maintaining frequent communication with our Partnership. While the candidate is not expected to bring a book of business, they will be client-facing and expected to be well-immersed and networked within the Philadelphia area. They will be the face of the company regionally and will actively represent the company at community, industry and client-facing networking events.
Responsibility Summary:
Leadership
• Executes the firm’s strategy and initiatives for the Philadelphia office.
• Provides strategic advice to Partnership on industry market trends and how they impact clients.
• Builds long term, trusting relationships with clients, Partnership and key stakeholders.
• Communicates frequently with clients to ensure their needs are understood and addressed.
• Represents company in professional matter within the community and at industry and client-facing events.
• Ensures a positive workplace; further develops and enhances culture.
• Fosters continual learning and development of employees.
Design and Project Management
• Leads conceptual design (e.g., developing system criteria, equipment room sizing, building stack, etc.) of
projects; guides team through construction document issuance and project completion; establishes design
criteria for the project.
• Manages team in reviewing shop drawings, RFI’s, Contractor change orders, performing site visits and reviewing
punch lists to ensure that designs are being implemented accurately.
• Collaborates in the preparation of proposals, RFPs and add services.
• Proactively resolves project related issues and keeps project team and clients well-informed.
• Manages the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, budget, and staffing) of projects, as well as the
development, implementation, and improvement of engineering processes.
• Manages project cost/budgets; regularly reviews and updates project and labor costs, processes change orders
in a timely fashion, makes suggestions on improving overall productivity and cost savings.
• Ensures projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the firms’s established policies and
objectives.
• Verifies accuracy and completeness of submitted documents against contract drawings and specifications.
• Effectively utilizes staffing and project resources and multitasks in responding to competing demands.
Technical
• Code expert.
• Reviews and identifies better work processes and proactively works to generate effective solutions to maximize
operational efficiency.
• Provides Technical presentations both internally and to clients.
• Manages the DRPP process for their department.
• Recognized as an industry leader and serves on professional committees outside of the firm.
Qualification Summary:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related area.
• 10+ years of experience as Director or Principal or in another senior leadership role within an engineering firm.
• Proficient in all design calculations and software tools (e.g., Revit and AutoCAD) applicable to your discipline.
• Strong understanding of trade-specific scope of project (i.e., proposal/add service), trade-related codes (i.e.,
energy, building, etc.) and the required coordination with other trades.
• Strong understanding of documentation formats and content for each deliverable phase (e.g., SD, DD, CD and
specifications).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
